Real-Time Transit Data Status

Why are real-time vehicle positions unavailable?

BusCyprus relies on official real-time vehicle position data from the Cyprus National Access Point (CyNAP), which publishes GTFS-RT (General Transit Feed Specification – Real-Time) information for public transport.

When this feed becomes unavailable, the app can only display scheduled timetable times. This means:

  • Arrival time estimates at stops may be inaccurate
  • Actual bus positions and delays are not reflected
  • Times shown are based on the published schedule only

Who provides the data?

The real-time vehicle position data is maintained by the Department of Public Works (Τμήμα Δημοσίσιων Έργων) under the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works and distributed via CyNAP (Cyprus National Access Point).

Why do real-time vehicle positions sometimes go offline?

  • Temporary technical issues at the data provider
  • Server maintenance or planned system upgrades
  • Network connectivity interruptions
  • GPS or telematics equipment issues on vehicles

What happens in the app during outages?

  • The app automatically falls back to scheduled timetable times
  • Arrival time estimates at stops may be inaccurate or delayed
  • Actual bus positions and real-time delays are not shown
  • Real-time vehicle positions and accurate arrival estimates will restore automatically once the feed recovers
